What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day is an international gathering of young people from every continent and nation, called annually by the Holy Father.
Every two to three years , the celebration is held in a different location around the world. At the last World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain, Pope Benedict XVI announced that 2013 World Youth Day would be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Organised by the catholic Church, World youth day consists of a week-long sries of events attended by the Pope and hundreds of thousands of young people from around the world.
This weeek culminates with a Final Mass celebrated by the Pope on the last day (what may be termed as the actual World Youth Day).
Typically, this Final Mass is the largest event of the week and, historically, has drawn millions of people.at the last World Youth day (2011)in Madrid ,Spain Pope Benedict XvI announced that 2013 World Youth Day, would be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It is already proving to be one of the biggest events there.
This will be our Holy Father’s Pope Francis the First, first world public appreance.
Young people from across the globe will be making their way to Rio.
World Youth Day is an invitationfrom the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their FAITH around a particular theme.
This year’s World Youth Theme is:
“Go and Make Disciples of all nations”
